Upright is the card as it is usually read. Reversed, when the picture is upside down, traditionally complicates that meaning: a delay, an inner version of the theme, or too much of the same energy. It is not automatically bad.
The same card in the past is a story about what led here. In the challenge it is what is in the way. As the outcome it is where this path is leaning. A spread is a set of questions, and each card answers one of them.
One card is a note. Several cards are a conversation. Repeated suits, two Major Arcana, or a reversal sitting next to a strong upright card change what each one means. The useful part is how they lean on each other.
The interpreter is given your question, the spread, every card, its position, and whether it is upright or reversed, plus the traditional meanings of those cards. It writes one reading of the whole spread. It does not draw extra cards, and it is for reflection, not a guaranteed prediction.
